For years we were told that if you wanted to lose weight then you had to avoid the fatty calcium laden dairy foods at all costs. Well the tide has turned and new scientific evidence suggests that calcium might well be one of the best foods that burn calories and speed up your metabolism.

According to The Nutrition Institute at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville who undertook studies with both rats and humans to discover that calcium is essential because it tells the body how and where to store excess fat.

Three groups of people were studied and all were given the same exercise plan and low calorie diet. The first group had a high dairy intake, the second had a low dairy intake but were supplemented with calcium, the third group had low dairy and low calcium intakes.

To everyone’s surprise the group with the low calorie but high dairy diet was this group which went on to lose almost 5 pound on average more than the next group, they also lost the most size around the belly!

Although dairy foods are the best source of calcium vegetables like broccoli are also high in it as well as several other anti-oxidants. We all know that the fat content of foods can be bad for our hearts, so to use milk as one of the foods that burn calories you need to choose low fat milk.

3 – Anti-Oxidants

Antioxidants are a favorite among people wanting foods to burn fat simply because they feel like they are doing the right thing for their bodies. While we might feel a little guilty drinking a glass of milk, drinking an antioxidant filled mug of green tea feels so much better for us!

Many of these antioxidants work as foods that burn calories because they contain just enough stimulant – like caffeine – to get our heart working a little bit harder and cause a slight elevation in our muscle work rate, but not enough to cause it to go into overdrive!
