We have all seen them and many of us have them, that bulge of fat that separates our hips from our ribs. Although the term love handles sounds endearing these are actually symptoms of a potentially life-threatening problem.
The good news is that by making minor changes to your lifestyle you can easily learn how to remove love handles once and for all.
Having love handles is a sign that you have too much excess fat which is being stored around your stomach area. Because of its proximity to your internal organs having fat stored here can be detrimental to your health and may lead to heart disease, metabolic disorders and diabetes.

One way of targeting and toning your love handles is by building your obliques. These are the muscles which run down the sides of your tummy and help to hold everything together. They help us to turn, twist and stretch sideways. Unfortunately they are often hidden by the love handles, but by focusing your strength training on these obliques you will help to build them up. Once your love handles have gone your obliques will help to give you that amazing abdominal outline that you want.

- Vertical leg crunches – this exercise involves lying o your back and raising your legs in the air then doing your regular crunches.
- Bicycle crunches – lie on the floor and perform twisting crunches while pedaling your legs. The key to this one is to keep the workout slow – trying to do it while pedaling madly will likely result in an injury!
- Captains chair leg raises – Using the captains chair at the gym slowly lift both knees towards your stomach, hold it for a few seconds and then relax.
