There are many things that can slow your metabolism down – yo-yo dieting and changing between a range of quick weight loss diets is one of them and can lower your metabolic rate by up to 30%!

Eating foods that your body has trouble processing is another way to sabotage your efforts as is eating too few calories. If you want you body to get to work burning those extra pounds then you need to feed it the right food in plentiful amounts.

Go online and find out your BMR (Base Metabolic Rate) this will tell you how many calories your body needs to perform at an optimum level throughout the day. Your needs will be different from other peoples, someone who has a different lifestyle, is a different gender or is more or less active will need a different amount of calories to see them through.

The important part of any weight loss plan is the type of calories you are eating. Although in the past some quick weight loss diets have specified certain foods like bread, bacon and even fried potato crisps the reality is that these will not aid your weight loss, and may even be dangerous!

Make sure that the majority of your calories come from foods which are high in protein, calcium, essential oils and complex carbohydrates. Fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts, low fat dairy produce, eggs and whole grains should make up the large proportion of any quick weight loss diets. If the plan that you are looking at does not recommend these then it will likely do you more harm than good. It is even likely that you will lose little weight on it and be unable to keep it off.

Sometimes when you start to eat healthily you might put on a bit of weight – that’s OK it is just your body’s way of trying to compensate for the increase in nutrition. Soon your metabolism will speed up and you will begin to drop weight. Just by doing this you can quickly start to lose a pound a week, add some exercise to the plan and you can lose up to 2 pounds a week.

Adding Exercise to Boost Quick Weight Loss

Most of the old quick weight loss diets don’t include any exercise in their plan. Their general idea seems to be eat as little as possible and you will lose weight. Of course common sense will tell you that not only is this not good for you, but it is also unsustainable and it will not be long before you are right back where you started – looking in the mirror wondering how to lose those extra pounds!

Most of the experts these days recommend a combination of Cardio exercise and strength training.

A cardio workout is anything that gets you moving and your muscles working. It is only by doing this that your body will start to burn off the existing fat and process any new fat more efficiently. Cardio workouts can range from an hour in the garden pulling weeds to 30 minutes on a stationary cycle, a 40 minute swim, a 30 minute walk around the neighborhood or a 60 minute gym session. Whatever you want to do to get moving is great.

Schedule it in for 20-60 minutes 3-5 times a week and you will be doing your body a great favor while reducing your weight. You will find that you sleep better, can think more clearly, feel more alert and stronger. Your balance will improve as will your stamina. Your immune system will also be boosted and you will find it easier to avoid those niggly colds and flu that knocks everyone else out.

You do not need to starve yourself on one of the quick weight loss diets to get your figure back, you do not have to drink cayenne pepper or take potions which make you sit on the toilet all day. You just need to use diet and exercise in combination to regain that lean, mean figure and you’ll get the added bonus of feeling great all over!
